MIMO field notes · Sofa planning · · MIMO editorial team
The day a compressed sofa arrives should have an opening plan as well as a delivery appointment. Decide where it will be inspected and opened, who is responsible and how the manufacturer’s instructions will be followed.
Prepare the intended room
Check the final sofa footprint and remove only items you are authorized to move. Preserve useful circulation and access to doors, windows and controls. If the product cannot be opened in its final position, ask the supplier and delivery team about the approved sequence.
Do not use a cramped hallway as an improvised unpacking area simply because the carton reaches it. The opening process may need more space than the package itself.
Have the right instructions available
Request the exact model’s unpacking, assembly and use instructions before delivery. Ask about any recovery or settling period described by the manufacturer and how it affects the occupancy schedule. There is no single timing promise that can be applied to every compressed sofa.
Identify who will open the packaging and whether that work is included in the purchased service. Keep tools and handling consistent with the instructions. If the product is damaged or the instructions are missing, contact the supplier rather than improvising.
Inspect before the handoff
Record the model and cartons received, visible packaging damage and any missing components. After opening, inspect the product as directed and document a concern through the supplier’s process. Keep evidence and relevant packaging until the supplier’s requirements are understood.
Arrange approved packaging disposal and a final room check. The property’s arrival or rent-ready list should show whether the sofa is ready for its intended use, still being assessed or awaiting a supplier response.
For multi-unit projects, repeat this process by unit reference rather than opening everything without a record. A clear handoff lets operations know which homes are genuinely prepared and prevents a delivered carton from being counted as a fully usable furnishing.
