A proposed stay of 30 days tells a provider the intended duration. It does not, by itself, establish the legal category of the arrangement or remove property, city or contractual requirements. Ask how the exact stay will be documented.
Get the proposed agreement first
Request the start and end dates, contracting party, address and full charges. Ask whether the quoted duration is a fixed period or can be extended. If an extension is possible, find out when it must be requested and how availability and pricing are decided.
Do not infer the rules from marketing phrases such as “monthly,” “mid-term” or “temporary.” Ask the provider which agreement applies and consult qualified local guidance if a legal question affects your decision. California’s tenant resources can be a starting point, but they do not determine every individual situation.
Identify what changes with duration
Check minimum booking periods, billing intervals and any separate fees. Ask how a partial extra period is handled. A home advertised for monthly stays may have a process for extensions that differs from its first booking.
For furnished accommodation, ask whether utilities, internet and service visits are included throughout the proposed period. Confirm any usage limits and the method for calculating extra charges. Keep those details beside the quote rather than assuming a single advertised amount includes everything.
Prepare for departure as well as arrival
Write down the notice process, key return arrangement and condition-report steps. Ask what happens if your work assignment ends early. A flexible work schedule does not automatically create a flexible housing agreement.
Before making a payment, verify the provider through its official contact channel and read the actual terms. If an answer remains uncertain, state it as an open question. A clearly documented 30-day plan is useful; an assumed “30-day loophole” can lead to decisions unsupported by the agreement or local requirements.
