A furniture assembly handoff that operations can verify

Use product instructions, item references and a defined completion check before accepting assembled furniture into an apartment inventory.

MIMO field notes · Delivery & installation · · MIMO editorial team

Assembly completion should be something operations can verify. Identify the products, approved instructions and responsible installer before the work begins, then record what has actually been completed.

Give the installer the right material

Provide the exact model references, room allocation and current manufacturer’s instructions. Confirm which work is included and what needs a separate qualified provider. Assembly should not quietly expand into unauthorized electrical work, mounting or building modification.

Check that the needed components and approved hardware are available. If a part is missing or the instructions do not match the product, pause the relevant item and contact the supplier rather than substituting improvised hardware.

Inspect against the instructions

Ask the installer to explain completed connections, intended operation and any required installation or anchoring. Follow product and appropriate safety guidance. CPSC’s Anchor It resources are relevant to furniture and television tip-over prevention, but the actual installation must suit the item and location.

Record visible damage, remaining packaging and any part awaiting resolution. Do not label an item complete because it looks assembled from across the room.

Hand over a usable record

Item status What operations needs
Completed Model, location and inspection record
Incomplete Missing step or component and responsible contact
Concern identified Specific issue and agreed follow-up
Instructions Care and operating information for staff

Keep unsafe or unresolved items under the property’s appropriate control process. Do not leave an occupant to discover an incomplete installation.

For repeated units, inspect the first setup and resolve issues before reproducing them. Then record exceptions by unit.

A clear handoff makes the furnishing inventory accurate and gives maintenance staff the information they will later need. It is more useful than a blanket “assembly finished” message that does not identify the items, instructions or work still outstanding.
